Ivonne Villalón

Ivonne Villalón (Mexico City) is a producer, film programmer, and interdisciplinary artist whose practice explores the intersections of art, activism, and research. With over a decade of experience working across Mexico and the United States, she develops projects that bring together creative practice, critical inquiry, and social engagement. She pursued postgraduate studies in Art and Politics at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and has collaborated with institutions such as MoMA’s Film Department, FicDesierto, the Hemispheric Institute of Performance and Politics and the Center for Creative Activism.
Her work spans installations, performances, and film, with presentations at Kimmel Galleries, El Museo del Barrio, and La MaMa Theatre, among other venues. As an impact producer, she has collaborated on films such as Fruits of Labor (Emily Cohen Ibañez), Brigada 2045 (Olivia Luengas), and The Inventory (Ilana Coleman), exploring the role of cinema in fostering social and cultural dialogue. She is currently developing «Escucharé el silencio y tendrá tu voz», a documentary project which has been supported by Plataforma MX (DocsMX), Residencia Zanate, and Residencias Walden.

While performance and installation have been important forms of expression in my artistic practice, over the years I have gradually discovered other mediums, particularly documentary filmmaking, through which to explore the questions that continue to move me: memory, public space, trauma, and displacement. Rather than leaving the visual arts behind, my practice has expanded into new forms and languages. In recent years, I have become increasingly interested in the idea of hope, exploring its possibilities as a creative, political, and deeply human force.
