Julien Lachal
Julien Lachal explore the poetic dimensions of widespread disruption as a multi-instrumental sound artist (working with wind instruments, percussion, piano, double bass, and modular synthesis) and as an experimenter involved in numerous stage and audiovisual creations. His work spans conceptual minimalism, free jazz, and sonic experimentation in relation to space and place.
In parallel, he also practices architecture and urban planning, with over 20 years of engagement in the evolving urban, climatic, and social dynamics of contemporary society.
He places the notion of entropy at the heart of his spatial and sonic practice—whether through improvisation, field recording, or visual arts such as drawing, video, and cartography.
His approach is rooted in mesology (the study of environments), which he draws upon in his work on encountering fragility, in an effort—however modest—to reimagine a caring, localized relationship with the living world.
During the residency Julien will explore the link between salt/copper/lithium, the memories of the land and inhabitants and work with sounds, photography and fictional maps.
