We are looking for people to join our team and work with us on our upcoming arts and cultural residency programs.⁠

We curate residency programs that raise awareness about endangered habitats on our planet - as places to ignite inspiration, develop ideas and create new works that engage with pressing issues of our time. During our residencies, creatives from around the world come to explore art, ecology, and socio-political themes in a multitude of ways, whilst learning directly from the land and those with closest ties to it. ⁠

  • The main work will be to help in the production of our residency programs. This includes -

    - Organizing daily logistics at the space, co-ordination and execution of our residency program with our team and collaborators⁠

    - Leading, guiding and translating during activities and research excursions we will make on the program⁠

    - Helping and sharing with the artists during their residency stay ⁠

  • We are looking for hardworking and passionate individuals to join our team. Your main job will be to work within a team to deliver our planned out program to the highest standard of quality and professionalism for the artists and participants of our programs. 

    We expect our workers to create a warm and welcoming environment and be positive leaders, with passion and interest in the participants' works and overall project mission and values. We expect our team to try their best to be helpful and put all their efforts to make sure the artists have a great experience. 

    Work will include liaison with the artists, having meetings with each artist to hear about their works and see how you can support them as a team. As well as leading group sharing sessions, where artists will show their processes and outcomes. 

    During the residency program the work includes delivering pre-planned activities that nurture the research of the participants. This includes research trips and other activities that will require guidance and translation to be divided between the team.  

    We are looking for sociable people who are comfortable living communally and passionate about sharing often with the artists. As a worker you should be happy in a collaborative, social environment and enjoy sharing with others, talking, cooking, sharing. You should be aware of the group dynamic and be able to connect with different types of people and omit an open and friendly personality. You should be able to bring in those who are feeling more shy or left out or who have less in common with you, perhaps they struggle with the language or are from different ages or backgrounds.

    Your role will also be to take care of practical logistics daily and general problem solving. This includes preparing the space beforehand to a high level, following our checklist, making sure things are working in the space. To set a good example and help keep things tidy and organised throughout the residency, fetch supplies and help in the kitchen, and help to resolve any situations that might occur. 

    You will need to keep the program updated and be checking with any collaborators for activities or excursions. You should actively be able to organise your time and take rests, breaks, schedule free time and your days off and organise this with the team. You should make sure to be presentable and in good health and with energy on work days during working hours, acting in a professional and friendly manner when interacting with the participants.

    We expect our team members to be committed to the growth  of the overall project and look for opportunities or ways we can improve the residency using creativity and their own initiatives. A basic understanding of documentation (photo, film and social media) is also preferred to help us document and share the work we are doing. As we are in a remote location a driving licence is preferred. Translation will be needed during activities and communication with the artists so medium level English Speaking is required. 

    Workers should be genuinely passionate about the values and mission of La Wayaka Current and transmit them in their conversations and interactions with artists. Our values are predominantly the promotion of environmental, social, artistic and cultural themes and activities. We expect our team to be passionate in working together with us and  helping to grow, develop and improve the residency's quality and overall project.
