Marie Dalmasso (France)
Marie Dalmasso is an artist and videographer based in Paris. Trained in Paris and London, she worked with several artists’ studios before spending nearly ten years as a creative director for international publications, while also making films in collaboration with various brands.
Her first artist residency, in Svalbard (Arctic) in 2025, marks a turning point in her practice. In this landscape, where notions of scale, distance and time become uncertain, her early works, structured as a travel journal, combine photography, video and painting and explore how an environment orients us.
In the Arctic, faced with the vastness, fog, ice and the disappearance of any horizon, landscapes lost their familiar boundaries. Alongside them, other forms of anchoring also began to waver: memory, narratives, projections and emotions through which we usually situate ourselves in the world. Upon her return, what remained was no longer an image of the landscape, but its imprint.
Her first series, “Les encres”, emerged from this state of visual persistence. Between figuration and abstraction, the works combine fragments of landscapes, cartographies, signs, silhouettes and organic forms within a vocabulary of forms of their own.
