Florence Cardenti (France)

Florence Cardenti lives and works in Paris, France. She holds degrees in Fine Arts from Jean Monnet University in Saint-Étienne and in Photography from Paris 8 University. She worked for fifteen years in multimedia project design and image technologies before devoting herself fully to her artistic practice.

Her work investigates contemporary systems of representation and the modelling of reality, particularly in relation to territories and living systems. Her works are held in public and private collections, including the Bibliothèque nationale de France, the École des Ponts and the Alpenverein in Innsbruck. She has exhibited in France and internationally, notably at Galerie In Situ in Innsbruck, the Biennale de l’Image Tangible (2023), and the 24 CARATS festival (2024).

She now focuses entirely on her research and the development of new image-based systems, exploring contemporary technologies of capture, modelling and 3D design to question current forms of governance over territories and living systems.

In my practice as a visual artist, I explore and repurpose tools used to capture reality, including photography, archives and technical devices, in order to question the systems of representation that shape our perception of the world. Whether rooted in science, cartography or history, these systems never provide access to reality in its raw state: they translate, model and organise it through formal and cultural frameworks.

My work seeks to reveal the constructed and evolving nature of these frameworks. By experimenting with viewing devices, modes of recording and the materiality of images, I aim to unsettle what appears self-evident and introduce areas of uncertainty, friction and doubt. My works take the form of artist’s books, photographs, videos and installations, in which the image is never stable but constantly reconfigured.
