LIEN DE COSTER / LA WAYAKA CURRENT ARCTIC

LIEN DE COSTER (b.1985 Belgium) is a poet based in the Netherlands. De Coster was an artist in residence during EXPEDITION 8 - La Wayaka Current / Arctic Location.

"I would like to use the residency to work on a collection of Arctic poems. To me poems are living creatures who already exist in the landscape and in the people who belong to it. The process of writing is like a process of harvesting, much like a hunter-gatherer who goes out searching for food. My inspiration comes from the wild places and the old ways and wisdom of earth-based cultures. To be able to dive into this creative process in an Arctic setting, with Sami people around, feels like a powerful opportunity to give voice to some of our European roots and to the Earth.

As a permaculture teacher and a nature connector I continue to explore how we can create a culture that supports life, learning from the Earth and integrating indigenous wisdom. To me the Arctic Island Residency brings together everything that I consider essential in my life. "

- Lien De Coster

De Coster regularly performs her poems and is now in the process of publishing her first poetry collection, 'Rawhides', which contains poems that have been harvested in wild places such as Sweden, Finland, the Scottish Highlands and the Canyonlands, USA. De Coster has a background in journalism, she also works with permaculture and wilderness on solo retreats.
