CAMILLA REYMAN / LA WAYAKA CURRENT TROPIC
CAMILLA REYMAN (b.1981 Denmark) is an artist based in Copenhagen. Reyman was an artist in residence during EXPEDITION 6 / 7 - La Wayaka Current / Tropic Location.
"I was browsing through resartist.org, and I stumbled across La Wayaka Current, and I instantly found this the most intriguing. I have for several years now felt the urge to escape the civilized conformity my surroundings lull me into. I’ve been daydreaming of running of to the rainforest and learn the ancient knowledge of shamans, but it always seemed a bit of a challenge…
La Wayaka Current seems to be exactly what I have been looking for: a place to be in touch with nature, far away from the disturbance of post-industrial culture, a possibility to learn from the indigenous culture and a way to meet and work with artist, with the same urge as myself. I work primarily with sculpture, installation and different graphic methods. A central focus of my practice is a fascination with the overcoming of the Ego. Since I graduated I have mainly worked with, what I refer to as my trilogy work.
I finished the trilogy this summer, and have since worked towards a less conceptual and more loose practice, following my artistic intuition and instincts, which seems harder to justify but much more pleasurable to execute. This I want to dig deeper into at a possible stay at La Wayaka Current, seeking inspiration in the surrounding environment, the indigenous culture and the artists I meet. Also I want to read, write and gaze into the Milky Way, which I have never seen with my own eyes." - Camilla Reyman
Camilla graduated from The Royal Academy of Fine Art in 2013. Reyman is known for her striking installations as well as her conceptual wall-pieces in epoxy and pigment.
